Las Loicas

The garden at Las Loicas started as a small experiment and slowly became an important part of life at the estancia. We are now even extending our greenhouses.

Growing food in Tierra del Fuego is not always easy. The wind is strong, the temperatures are low and the growing season is short. Everything takes time, patience and a lot of trial and error. But that is also what makes the process so rewarding.

Our main focus is to grow fresh vegetables, herbs and small fruits for the estancia itself, using them in the meals we prepare for guests. Depending on the season and harvest, we also occasionally share produce with a few local restaurants and chefs in Ushuaia.

At the same time, we hope the project can become part of something bigger. Tierra del Fuego still imports much of its fresh produce from far away, including supplies for Antarctic expedition ships. We would love to help strengthen the connection between Antarctic operators and local producers, creating more opportunities for vegetables and fruits grown in the region to be supplied locally instead of being transported from elsewhere.

This is not only about Las Loicas, but also about supporting other farmers and encouraging more local food production in Tierra del Fuego.

Guests are always welcome to walk through the garden, help harvest ingredients for dinner or simply be part of this ongoing project.
