Stargazing

When the sun sets, another side of Southern Patagonia begins to reveal itself. Far away from towns and city lights, Las Loicas enjoys exceptionally dark skies with no light pollution, creating the perfect conditions for stargazing. Many of our guests tell us they have never seen a night sky quite like this before.

On clear nights, the Milky Way stretches from horizon to horizon. With the naked eye, you can also spot the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds; two neighbouring galaxies located around 160,000 to 200,000 light-years away. They appear as two soft, glowing patches in the night sky and can only be seen from the Southern Hemisphere, making them a special sight for many visitors.

Millions of stars fill the sky, and shooting stars are a common sight, making every evening a little different from the last. There is no observatory, no schedule and no telescope required. Just step outside with a warm drink or a glass of wine, listen to the waves of the Atlantic Ocean and the silence of the surrounding landscape, and take in one of Patagonia’s greatest natural spectacles.
Sometimes the most memorable adventure is simply looking up.
